Creamy Avocado Ice Cream

Creamy Avocado Ice Cream

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Chill/Freeze Time: 4–6 hours
Servings: 6–8

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk, 14 oz
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2–3 tbsp powdered sugar, optional

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a blender or food processor.
  2. Add the sweetened condensed milk, lime juice, vanilla extract, and a small pinch of salt.
  3. Blend until completely smooth and creamy, with no avocado pieces remaining.
  4. In a separate chilled mixing bowl, beat the cold heavy whipping cream with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
  5. Add the avocado mixture to the whipped cream.
  6. Gently fold everything together with a spatula until evenly combined. Avoid overmixing so the ice cream stays light and creamy.
  7. Taste the mixture. If you prefer it sweeter, fold in a little powdered sugar.
  8. Transfer the mixture to a freezer-safe container or metal tray.
  9. Smooth the top with a spatula and cover tightly with plastic wrap or a lid.
  10. Freeze for at least 4–6 hours, or preferably overnight, until firm enough to scoop.
  11. Remove from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for about 5–10 minutes before scooping.
  12. Use an ice cream scoop to form smooth round portions like the ones shown in the image.

Tips

Use very ripe avocados for the smoothest texture and best flavor.

The lime juice adds freshness and also helps maintain the green color.

Make sure the whipping cream is very cold before beating it.

For an extra-creamy texture, chill the avocado mixture for about 30 minutes before folding it into the whipped cream.

For a stronger green color and earthy flavor, you can add 1/2 teaspoon matcha powder, but this is optional.

Variations

For Avocado Coconut Ice Cream, replace half of the heavy cream with thick coconut cream.

For Chocolate Avocado Ice Cream, blend in 1/3 cup cocoa powder.

For Avocado Lime Ice Cream, increase the lime juice to 3 tablespoons and add 1 teaspoon finely grated lime zest.

For a crunchier dessert, add chopped pistachios or toasted coconut before freezing.

Storage

Store the ice cream in a tightly covered freezer-safe container for up to 2 weeks for the best texture.

Pressing plastic wrap directly onto the surface can help prevent ice crystals.

Allow it to soften for several minutes before scooping after long-term freezing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this without an ice cream machine?
Yes. This recipe is specifically designed as a no-churn ice cream.

Will it taste strongly like avocado?
It has a mild avocado flavor, balanced by vanilla, lime, and sweetened condensed milk.

Can I use milk instead of heavy cream?

How do I keep the ice cream green?
Use fresh lime juice and keep the ice cream tightly covered to reduce air exposure.

Can I make individual scoops ahead of time?
Yes. Once the ice cream is firm, scoop portions onto a chilled tray and freeze them again until solid.
