Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 30–35 minutes
Servings: 5

Ingredients

  • 5 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 10–15 slices bacon
  • 4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 2–3 sprigs fresh rosemary or thyme

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking dish to prevent the chicken from sticking.

Step 2: In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and dried parsley. Mix until creamy and evenly combined.

Step 3: Using a sharp knife, carefully cut a deep horizontal pocket into the side of each chicken breast. Be careful not to cut completely through the chicken.

Step 4: Divide the cream cheese mixture evenly among the five chicken breasts. Spoon the filling into each pocket and gently press the chicken closed around it.

Step 5: Season the outside of each stuffed chicken breast with paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Step 6: Wrap each chicken breast with 2–3 slices of bacon. Slightly overlap the bacon slices so that most of the chicken is covered and the filling stays securely inside.

Step 7: Arrange the bacon-wrapped chicken breasts seam-side down in the prepared baking dish. Drizzle with olive oil and melted butter. Place the fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs around the chicken for additional flavor.

Step 8: Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the chicken is completely cooked and the thickest part reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Step 9: For crispier, beautifully browned bacon, switch the oven to broil and cook for an additional 2–4 minutes. Watch carefully because bacon can brown quickly under the broiler.

Step 10: Remove the chicken from the oven and allow it to rest for approximately 5 minutes. Spoon some of the flavorful buttery pan juices over each chicken breast before serving.

Tips

Choose chicken breasts that are similar in size so they cook evenly. Avoid adding too much filling because excess cheese may leak from the chicken during baking.

If using particularly thick-cut bacon, partially cook it for a few minutes before wrapping the chicken. This helps ensure the bacon becomes crispy without overcooking the chicken.

For extra flavor, chopped spinach or grated Parmesan can be mixed into the cream cheese filling.

Storage

Store leftover bacon-wrapped stuffed chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.

Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven until thoroughly warmed. Using the oven rather than the microwave will help the bacon retain more of its texture.

Cooked stuffed chicken can also be frozen for up to 2 months. Allow it to cool completely before placing it in a freezer-safe container.

Serving Ideas

Serve Bacon-Wrapped Garlic Herb Stuffed Chicken Breasts with creamy mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, garlic green beans, steamed broccoli, buttery corn, or a fresh garden salad.

You can also serve it with rice and spoon the buttery, savory pan juices over the top for additional flavor.

Nutrition Benefits

Chicken breast is an excellent source of high-quality protein, while mozzarella and cream cheese provide calcium and additional protein.

Depending on the size of the chicken breasts and the amount of bacon and cheese used, one serving may contain approximately 450–550 calories and 40–50 grams of protein.

Recipe Q&A

Can I make this without cream cheese?
Yes. You can replace the cream cheese with mozzarella, cheddar, feta, or another cheese you enjoy.

Can I prepare the chicken ahead of time?
Yes. Stuff and wrap the chicken breasts, place them in the baking dish, cover tightly, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.

How do I know when the stuffed chicken is fully cooked?
Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the chicken, avoiding the filling. It should reach 165°F (74°C).

How can I make the bacon crispier?
Broil the chicken for 2–4 minutes after baking. Keep a close eye on it to prevent the bacon from burning.

Can I add spinach to the filling?
Yes. Finely chopped spinach pairs very well with the garlic, herbs, cream cheese, and mozzarella.
