Chocolate Protein Pudding

A creamy chocolate pudding made with ready-to-drink protein shakes and instant pudding mix. This version is inspired by the ingredients visible in your photo.

Prep time: 5 minutes
Chill time: 30–60 minutes
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chocolate dairy-based protein shake, chilled
  • 1 small box sugar-free instant chocolate pudding mix, approximately 1.4 ounces (39–40 g), sized to make pudding with 2 cups milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
  • A small pinch of salt, optional

Optional toppings

  • Fresh strawberries or raspberries
  • A spoonful of whipped topping
  • Chocolate shavings
  • Chopped almonds

Instructions

  1. Measure the protein shake. Use exactly 2 cups total. Two full bottles may contain more liquid than you need, so save any extra for another use.
  2. Pour the cold protein shake into a mixing bowl. Add the instant pudding powder, vanilla, and salt.
  3. Whisk continuously for about 2 minutes until smooth and beginning to thicken. Alternatively, blend briefly until combined, avoiding excessive blending that creates lots of foam.
  4. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes. Stir gently to smooth out any remaining bubbles or small lumps.
  5. Divide evenly among four small containers, approximately ½ cup each. Cover with lids.
  6. Refrigerate for 30–60 minutes, or until the pudding reaches your preferred consistency. Different protein shakes can produce slightly different textures.
  7. Stir gently before serving, if needed, and add your favorite toppings.

Tips and Notes

  • Use instant pudding mix. Cook-and-serve pudding requires a different preparation method.
  • Start with cold shakes for the best texture.
  • Dairy-based protein shakes are the most straightforward choice for this version. Plant-based shakes may not set the same way.
  • If the chilled pudding is too thick, stir in additional shake one tablespoon at a time.
  • For a deeper chocolate flavor, whisk one teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa into the dry pudding mix before adding it.
  • Skip additional sweetener initially; both the shake and pudding mix already contain sweeteners.
  • For larger portions, divide into two containers instead of four.

Storage

Keep covered in the refrigerator and enjoy within 3 days, or sooner if the protein shake label directs. Freezing may change the texture and cause separation after thawing.

Estimated Nutrition Per Serving

For four servings, using a shake with approximately 150 calories and 30 g protein per 11.5-fluid-ounce bottle:

  • Calories: 80–90
  • Protein: 10–11 g
  • Carbohydrates: 9–12 g
  • Fat: 1–2 g

These are estimates without toppings. Check your shake and pudding labels for precise values. Sugar-free pudding mix does not make the finished recipe entirely sugar-free.

Benefits

  • Provides protein in an easy dessert or snack.
  • Requires only two main ingredients.
  • Needs no cooking.
  • Portions easily into individual containers for preparing ahead.

Questions and Answers

Can I use vanilla protein shakes?
Yes. Chocolate pudding mix will still provide chocolate flavor, although it will taste milder.

Can I add protein powder?
You can, but it may make the pudding chalky or overly thick. Start with a small amount and add extra liquid as needed.

Why is my pudding runny?
Too much liquid, a different pudding box size, or the type of protein shake can affect setting. Measure carefully and allow the full chilling time.

Can I use regular instant chocolate pudding mix?
Yes. Choose a package intended for 2 cups of milk. The sugar content and nutrition will change.

How do I make it look like the photo?
Portion the pudding into small clear containers, chill thoroughly, and scoop with a spoon to show the thick, creamy texture.
